Someone who drowns in 7 feet of water is just as dead as someone who drowns in 20 feet of water, stop belittling your or anyone else’s trauma because it wasn’t “as bad” as someone else’s. This isn’t a competition, we all deserve support and recovery. Casy Rose
I often hear people say “I don’t need therapy; my problems aren’t as bad as their’s”. Comparison to others can lead us down a road that convinces us that we’re maybe too needy or perhaps not needy enough.
The fact is, everybody’s journey is different, we’re all unique and it’s that human trait which means all of us, me included, can flourish during the process of therapy, no matter what our starting point is. It’s the very thing that drew me to this career.
My experience of working with survivors of trauma has been a live demonstration of the impact of previous and current experiences on our health. Emotions can become 'stuck' and we can get trapped in a narrative that informs us we 'can't'. I will encourage you to 'notice' and be 'curious' about what’s helpful & what's not and inquire what informs you of this. I will support you with compassion to become more self-aware, enabling you to better support yourself during day to day life.
As you can imagine, a lot of research has been compiled, comparing the various modalities or types of therapy and their effectiveness. Overwhelmingly, it is the relationship between therapist and client that points to positive outcomes of therapy. Personal experience has shown me this too. Therefore, I encourage you make a few inquiries before committing to work with anyone. I offer a free telephone consultation to enable you to communicate what you feel your needs are and to ascertain if you feel we'd be a 'good fit' before starting working together.
